For Genie Poretzky-Lee, books are a way to capture her ongoing relationship with the language of the birds, storytelling, and magic. Through drawings, words, texture and collage Genie sees the book page as a place of wonder, an adventure from page to page. Her books are encounters, each one weaving myths, spells, and dreams. Her most recent works — Magical Books/Books of Magic (2026) — continues this long conversation with the book as spell-object, where title and content mirror and reverse each other. Materials: dyes, threads, leaves and images, carry their own legacy and story onto the page.
